Ah Ma: A Warm and Nostalgic Store Design

Bringing Back Memories of Grandma's House

Ah Ma, designed by Denver Hsu, is a unique store that evokes a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Inspired by the eaves of grandma's house and the busy scenes of her cooking, this design creates a feeling of returning home and a simple, pure emotion.

At the entrance of Ah Ma, a retro bronze structure stands firmly on the light gray ground, exuding a sense of calm and power. This low-profile symbol of metal represents strength and responsibility, creating an atmosphere that is both easy and warm.

The interior space of Ah Ma covers a total of 134 square meters and is divided into five different areas: dining space, kitchen, electric room, open kitchen, and hallway. Each area is carefully designed to create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

The warm yellow chandelier in Ah Ma emits a faint light that supports the overall lighting needs of the space. It may not be obvious, but it is always there, providing a subtle and comforting glow.

The design of Ah Ma incorporates elements of Asian style, with keywords such as interior, commercial, new tea, chain store, cool, and pure. It combines traditional aesthetics with modern sensibilities, creating a unique and captivating environment.

Ah Ma is not just a store; it is a place that evokes memories and emotions. The kitchen area, illuminated by a warm light, showcases the treasured raw materials used by grandma. It creates a sense of authenticity and warmth, reminiscent of the infinite love and care that grandma provided.

The project started in July 2021 and was completed in October 2021 in Nanning. Throughout the design process, the team faced various challenges, including capturing the essence of grandma's kitchen and creating a space that felt welcoming and familiar.

Ah Ma is a space that embraces visitors with its quiet generosity and lack of distance. It creates an atmosphere where nature and humanity can coexist harmoniously. The design, created by Denver Hsu, is a testament to his creativity and attention to detail.

Ah Ma received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.
